Analytical Core Logging System

ANCORELOG is DMT's latest innovation in core scanning technology. This modular multi-sensor device combines analytical sensors and measures chemical and mineralogical drill core compositions in real time. The core samples are subsequently classified into geological domains using smart machine learning techniques.


Converting Big Data to Intelligent Data

One of the most challenging aspects of exploration drilling projects is obtaining results from drill core samples. These results are critical for making decisions during the early stages of an exploration project. The complexity of this task is further exacerbated when the project is being carried out in a remote location, adding logistical issues to the mix.

Similarly, production planning on mining sites often requires hourly, daily, and weekly analysis, posing its own set of challenges.

ANCORELOG was designed to address these issues, reducing costs along the value chain in the raw materials sector by supporting and speeding up decision making and eliminating standby periods.

The mobile core logger measures the chemical, mineralogical, and textural drill core properties with a high level of accuracy. Smart classification algorithms then convert these measurements (big data), classifying and sorting them into geotechnical, geological, and geometallurgical domains (intelligent data) on site in near real time.

The ANCORELOG web-based app provides real-time data visualization and near real-time monitoring of logging data.

Impact and Benefits

DMT is a pioneer in the field of drill core scanning instrument solutions. Our CoreScan product line was established over 30 years ago and has since provided deep insights into the market for drill core logging, digitalization, and analysis

In 2018, we began upscaling our ANCORELOG project. As project leader, DMT collaborated with 11 other European project partners, including research institutes, universities, and manufacturing companies to develop the analytical core logging system.

ANCORELOG combines innovative technologies to create a drill core scanner with a modular combination of multiple analytical sensors, including an XRF sensor, hyperspectral imaging, a 3D laser profiler, and an RGB line scan camera.

The unit also includes a Timegated Raman sensor, which was developed as part of the T-REX project. This sensor was adapted to meet the requirements of the exploration and mining industry and integrated into DMT's ANCORELOG.

As an additional analytical sensor, the T-REX offers a range of measurement modes and systematically analyzes the mineralogical composition of drill cores, providing accurate data in near real time to facilitate decision making on drilling projects.
